David Rooks wants to make exploring disc golf courses online a better experience with his new 3D Disc Golf Atlas project. A Kickstarter campaign is currently underway to raise $50,000 to purchase equipment and help fund their trip around the country to document every disc golf course available to them. Think of this like a Google Maps Street View version for disc golf courses.

There are a few incentives for backers at higher levels including some minis and custom stamped discs, but the main reward is priority in documenting the courses in your region.

Rooks aims to use $30,000 of the $50,000 goal toward a mounting backpack for the camera, software, and insurance. The rest of the funding will be used for the travel, lodging, food, and other expenses. The group is banking on sponsorships for each course page to reach about a $10,000 a month level to keep the project sustainable.

With one camera they estimate the the project to take four years to complete. Head to their Kickstarter campaign page to become a backer. It doesn’t take much to get involved to help make this project come to life. The campaign ends July 31, 2015.
