Okay folks, 54 holes of EO2015 has been played and there’s only 18 left. The 3rd round is called the moving day, since typically on the round preceding the final we see lots of movement up and down the scoreboard. This Saturday was no exception, as the players were attacking the course with hopes to secure good spots before the Sunday’s final round. Possibly the more aggressive game plans were just the fuel needed for Finnish Ilari Tuoma and USA’s Philo Brathwaite who were able to card hole in ones on holes 2 and 4 respectively. Unfortunately there was no cameras following Philo’s ace, but Ilari’s sidearm skip ace was captured by Markku Autio. See the ace below:

All American FPO Lead Group for Sunday Finals

On the ladies division the hot round of the day was Sarah Hokom’s 984-rated 66 (+2) that strengthens her grip of the 2nd spot in the race. Hokom still has a chance to take home the title, but Catrina Allen’s 7-stroke lead won’t be an easy bridge to gap. Behind the 2 top ladies Valarie Jenkins is holding on to her 3rd spot with today’s 70 (+6) round. Completing the FPO lead group for Championship Sunday will be defending European Open Champion Paige Pierce, who shot 73 (+9) today.

Behind the strong American lead, young Finnish talent is populating the ladies chase card for Sunday. Eveliina Salonen and Henna Blomroos earned their EO-spots by winning qualifying tournaments at Nokia and Oulu respectively and are working on a storm warning here at the main event. The amazing thing about these two young athletes is their age. Blomroos is only 15, while Salonen is 16. This means these young ladies still have many years to hone in their skills to reach the top, so make sure to keep these names in mind.

McBeast has a slow start, Wysocki shoots the hot round

Maybe it was the rainy weather or maybe the 3-time World Champion just wanted to add some excitement to the final round in front of the live TV audience. Either way, it took 7 holes before the current leader Paul McBeth was able to score the 1st birdie on the 3rd round. Paul’s round score of 60 (-4) definitely gave the rest of the field some room to move closer to the leader going in to the finals. This room was best capitalized by USA’s Ricky Wysocki, who shot the hot round of 54 (-10) today. Ricky’s game was rolling nicely throughout the round with the only bogey coming from the 17th where his drive landed OB. Ricky’s hot round raises him to 2nd place in the race from the chase card today. Completing the final round lead group will be USA’s Will Schusterick who shot 9 birdies and one bogey to give him the round score of 56 (-8) and Denmark’s KJ Nybo, who struggled on the course a little today and dropped from 2nd to 4th place with his 60 (-4).

Some of the top scoreboard climbers today was Nokia local Lassi Hakulinen who shot 56 (-8) that will land him on the chase card for Sunday and USA’s Drew Gibson who’s been improving his score round after round at the Beast. Jeremy Koling, who played on the lead card today, was not too happy with his 61 (-3) for the day and will be tackling the course tomorrow as the first guy on the chase card. 2011 European Open Champion Dave Feldberg will also be on the lead card with Hakulinen and Gibson who are tied with USA’s Devan Owens. Owens will have to settle for the 3rd group due to the higher round scores from round 3 by Hakulinen and Gibson.

A lot more action to follow Sunday!

The final round action kicks off at 08:30 on Sunday with groups starting their rounds on hole 1 in 10 minute intervals in reverse order of scores. See round 4 tee times here. We’re very proud to once again bring top disc golf to Finnish national TV. Our good friends at YLE have their production equipment already on the tournament site and the production team is working hard to bring you the best show possible on live TV. The broadcast will feature top quality footage filmed with 12 cameras and a lot clips and interviews from the whole tournament week.
