Innova’s Flippiest Flyers – Our Most Understable Drivers, Fairways, Mids, and Putters

The Art of Flippy Flight

Throwing understable discs is an art. It requires touch. They won’t mask mistakes in your form like a beefier disc would and they will burn into the ground if overpowered. When you hit the release angle and power just right, understable discs make beautiful shot shapes that are why we love disc golf.

Players with slower arms can throw less stable discs to make up a lot of the distance differential between them and more powerful throwers. Understable discs enable rollers, a utility shot for low-ceilings and a cheat code for extra distance. A flip-to-flat shot can go straighter and farther than a flat release with a stable disc. Dive into the understable Drivers, Fairways, Mids, and Putters below to flip your game around.

Distance Drivers

For those big, graceful S-curves or long, gliding anhyzers, lean on these Distance Drivers. Power players will find utility in these molds for rollers and scrambling.

Mamba

The Mamba is Innova’s most understable Distance Driver. Keep up with the fastest arms by smoothing your Mamba on an effortless S-line.

Monarch

The Monarch’s high glide and flippy flight make it great for beginners looking for a fast driver and advanced players looking for an out-of-the-box roller.

Daedalus

Daedalus is a powerful tool for players with medium arm speed looking to push the limits of their distance.

Fairway Drivers

If you’ve got touch, these Fairway Drivers are weapons in the woods. Flipped to flat, these discs will go dead straight. Released on anhyzer and they’ll hardly fade at all.

Roadrunner

The Roadrunner makes the bag of many top Innova pros including World Champions Gregg Barsby and Juliana Korver.  It is our most understable Fairway Driver, used for rollers and straight shots through the woods.

Archangel

A beginner-friendly driver with plenty of glide, the Archangel lets you hit turnover lines with ease.

IT

The IT is a newer addition to Innova’s lineup that has become an essential flippy driver for slower arms on wooded courses.

Mid-Ranges

Understable Mid-Ranges let you shape shots on shorter holes without the fade that pulls more stable discs off their line. The Stringray is one of our oldest molds and the Rollo is one of our newest; the need for a reliable, understable Mid spans the decades.

Rollo

The Rollo has been touted as the most fun disc release in years. Throw it with hyzer and watch it gracefully turn to hit your target. Or break it out for its namesake purpose, easy-to-throw rollers

Stingray

A classic understable Mid, the Stingray has been flipping down the fairway for nearly 40 years. As useful today as ever.

Wolf

The Wolf is very beginner friendly due to its slow speed and understable flight. It features the Thumtrac to help with grip.

Putters

Understable Putters provide finesse and control on approach shots. Need to throw it in from 100+ but want to land softly if you miss? Try these molds.

Sonic

The Sonic’s unique profile makes it floaty and controllable, offering a soft, straight flight on short approaches. Sound like a disc reserved for slower arms? Think again! Garrett Gurthie, one of disc golf’s farthest throwers, loves his Sonic.

Mirage

With minimal power, the Mirage holds a smooth line, making it a favorite for approach shots under 200 feet.

The Roadrunner – Flippy Flyer or Straight Shooter?

You may have noticed that the Roadrunner made both our Straightest Shooters list and our Flippy Flyers list. So how can one disc occupy both roles? It’s all about release angle and power. Though the Roadrunner is our most understable Fairway Driver, renowned for distance rollers and anhyzers, it can go quite straight when released with the right angle and speed. Thrown smoothly with hyzer, the Roadrunner will flip up to flat, then carry straight. Thrown flat with power, the Roadrunner will turn over with hardly any fade at the end of the flight.
