In 1998 “Steady” Ed Hedrick, the inventor of the disc golf basket and founder of DGA, took a chance on a young boy and brought him to his first world championships. That young boy was 13 year old, Nate Doss. At the time, Ed could have never imagined the effect this would take on young Nate, who would eventually go on to win four world championships, one junior and three open titles. Ever since that moment in time, Nate knew how important a single moment could be, and how it could impact someone’s life forever.
It is now Nate Doss’ turn to help create that moment for someone else. In late 2015, Nate started developing this idea and wondered how he could help kids with the same disc golf dreams as he had. The result was the Nate Doss Junior Grant Program, in which money would be raised and one deserving junior player would be given the opportunity to go to the world championships and compete. With money raised from the 2015 Team Keen Fundraiser discs and from the help of his partners; Keen Footwear, Grip Equipment and Discraft, this idea is now a reality.
The grant is designed for ONE girl or boy, that is 16 years old or younger, was a current PDGA member in 2015, completed at least one PDGA event in 2015 and has the dream of playing in the world championships this year. The application process will include a 200 word or less essay that the applicant must write themselves. The entire grant process is designed to help each young person grow, learn, and work to achieve their personal goals.
Thanks to our awesome partners, the “Nate Doss” Junior Grant will include:
1) $1000+ to be used to cover travel expenses, entry fee, and PDGA Certified Officials exam fee to compete in the 2016 PDGA Amatuer and Junior World Championships.
2) 50 Discraft discs of their choice.
3) 1 Grip Equipment B15 Disc Golf Bag, color of their choice.
4) 2 Pairs of Keen Shoes of their choice.

About ten days ago, I asked the social media world to help me find a worthy cause for my 2014 Team Keen donation. I was overwhelmed with the responses I got from everyone with many different inspiring Disc Golf projects. I want to publicly thank everyone who sent me their idea and I wish you the best of luck moving forward.
This year I have chosen to make the donation of $1000 to the Fredericton Disc Golf Club of Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada. The club president, Steve Seabrook, has embarked on a project to not only grow disc golf in the region but bring the game to thousands of students from the local schools. I was a young boy when I found the sport and feel fortunate that I did. If the sport that we love and adore is going to continue into the future we need young people to get interested in playing. The following statement is from Steve regarding this project;
“Hi Nate, again thank you so much! Everyone involved with Fredericton Disc Golf is really excited to have the resources for our Disc Golf in the Schools project. Our goal is to provide the necessary portable baskets, discs, lesson plans and support to allow our Phys Ed teachers the opportunity to teach disc golf. This donation provided by you and Keen Footwear will allow us to drive the sport and literally bring disc golf to every student in Fredericton. The sport of disc golf will have a solid foundation that will allow disc golf to grow and be a positive influence for our youth.” – Steve Seabrook PDGA# 20242
The donation will go toward purchasing three baskets and 100 discs for the students to use and learn with. The equipment will be rotated to a new school every two weeks and will be used for years to come. We are going to partner with DGA and Discraft to help us provide equipment for this project.
I would like to thank Keen Footwear for giving me this incredible opportunity to help, Steve, the students, and the disc golf club of Fredericton.
If you are interested in helping fund this project you can simply purchase a 2014 Team Keen disc for a $20 donation, and 100% of the proceeds will go to help Steve and his crew. We have four Discraft discs to choose from; (Challenger, Buzzz, Meteor, Nuke) in different colors and weights.
Thank you in advance for your support in helping the future of Disc Golf!
We also have discsleft from previous year left, even thought the donation has been made we still to get them all sold!

Since 2009, Keen Footwear has been supporting five of Disc Golf’s most prominent names through their Ambassador program; including 3x World Champion, Valarie Jenkins; 12x World Champion, “The Champ” Ken Climo; 2009 World Champion, Avery Jenkins; 2008 World Champion, Dave Feldberg, and myself, Nate Doss, 3x World Champion. These ambassadors have taken advantage of the World’s stage to grow the sport in their own ways. With this in mind, Keen Footwear has given them each an opportunity to also give back in a monetary way. Over the past five years, Keen Footwear has made 50 discs for each Disc Golf Ambassador to sell as a fundraising effort for a chosen charity.
The truth is the KEEN Fundraising program has and will continue to help the Disc Golf community! This has been a non-profit project and 100% of the money raised through these disc sales is given back to the sport to a different charity each year. It is unique in that these ambassadors are personally promoting and selling these discs, signing them, packing them up, and shipping them directly to the buyers. Putting in this small effort on our side promotes huge opportunity to raise money and give support to a needed Disc Golf charity.
Over the five years of the Team Keen Fundraiser discs, we have had the opportunity to raise $25,000 to donate to many worthy causes. The causes have included helping children, collegiate teams, The Deaf Disc Golf Association, women’s disc golf programs and even course projects that may need that final push of funding to complete. The goal is to keep the money within our sport to help charities that will have a perpetual influence on the future of Disc Golf.
These discs have offered a different hot-stamp design each year, creating a collector’s set. Every stamp design has included the Keen logo and the names of the Disc Golf Ambassadors along with a place for each player to sign; making it a goal for buyers to get all five. Keen has produced these discs in Innova, Discraft, and Latitude 64 to represent each Ambassador’s respective disc sponsor. For you collectors out there, each year there are 3 different disc company options to chose for your collection. Valarie, Ken, and Avery have Innova Champion, Dave has Latitude 64 and I, of course, have Discraft.
These discs are sold through a variety of outlets from each player. My Team KEEN Discraft discs are exclusively sold here in the Nate Doss Shop. Purchase from my store and the discs will come signed by Valarie Jenkins and myself. My focus for donations has been to help the future of the sport through the youth, from children to collegiate teams. When you purchase through this site, know that your donation is greatly appreciated and will be put toward a great cause!

After going over many different ideas, I have made a final decision on where the 2012 and 2013 Team Keen fundraising money will be donated. The $1,000 raised from the 2012 Team Keen discs will be going to help support 2 local collages in my new hometown of Bend, OR. Central Oregon Community College (COCC) and Oregon State University Cascades (OSU Cascades) are the two colleges here in Bend and over the past few years have been putting together Collegiate Disc Golf teams, and last year COCC competed at the National Championship. Putting together the teams is just the first step and equipment is still limited as the teams are forced to share their practice time with locals on our busy courses.
The 2012 Team Keen donation will go towards purchasing personalized practice baskets for each team. With the help of my friends at DGA, the baskets will be powder-coated in each of the school’s colors with their team logo on the number plate. These baskets will help the team run practice on campus at the athletic field, plus give them a sense of team pride. Not only will the current teams be able to enjoy these new baskets, but teams for years will be able to hone their skills. I think the the growth of collegiate Disc Golf is very important to the success of the sport. The team aspect, to me, is the most important factor. Learning to support your fellow disc golfer is such an amazing character builder I think the collegiate level is a perfect place to engrain this. With the residual funds after the purchase of the baskets, team shirts will be made to be worn proudly at Collegiate Nationals next spring in Augusta, GA.

Now the 2013 Team Keen donation hits back at home with me in Santa Cruz, California. These funds will be going towards a great cause and a perfect example of young people working hard to give back to a friend. A young man, Gavin Jack, an athlete from my alma mater Soquel High School, and member of the Soquel High Disc Golf Club was recently diagnosed with a serious heart issue that required an immediate heart transplant. While the transplant was a success, the medical bills are lingering with the family. Friends and family have joined in to donate through numerous fundraisers and even the Children’s Organ Transplant Association (COTA) has stepped up to help to cover these immense costs.
They need roughly $75,000 to cover the medical costs and to date $43,378 has been raised towards that goal. With the sites within reach, Gavin’s peers in the Soquel High Disc Golf Club want to be sure he reaches that goal so they have decided to run a fundraising Disc Golf tournament. With the help of COTA and the DeLaveaga Disc Golf Club, the students will be running a event on January 25, 2014 at the Pinto Lake Disc Golf Course, in Watsonville, CA. They hope to raise $5,000 through event and they have already started this week in their fundraising efforts.
Needless to say when I heard this story, I was so proud to once again hear that the Disc Golf Club of Soquel was working for such a noble cause. Three years ago, these young people worked so hard with the local community to get a course installed on the campus. Through trials and tribulations, they continued to stand up for this great sport regardless of what the community threw back at them. Because these kids continue to work so hard in all they are passionate about, I will be donating the $1000 from the Team Keen discs to the Soquel High Disc Golf Club in their fundraising efforts to support, their courageous friend and Disc Golfer, Gavin Jack.
I think that both donations will make a huge impact within these two great causes. If you would like to help me reach my goal, the 2013 or 2013 Team Keen discs are available for a $20 donation through www.NateDoss.com. 100% of the proceeds will go to the causes explained above. Thank you for your time and always for your support!
