With a few wins and some strong finishes in recent weeks at PDGA A-Tier and National Tour events, Paul Ulibarri has built a solid foundation leading to the first Disc Golf Pro Tour event.
We’ll follow Ulibarri through the Disc Golf Pro Tour with interviews before and after each DGPT event. Ulibarri has been in contention at the Vibram Open in previous years, but he is still in search of his first win at the prestigious event and that first plunge into the pond.
We talked with Ulibarri between practice rounds this week.
Excited to be a part of the Disc Golf Pro tour?
“While this is an exciting time, it’s hard to think of it as a Pro Tour event since the Vibram Open has been such a big event for so many years. Always excited to play it though.”
“I’m anxious to see what the Pro Tour really is. I’ve played this event for 7-8 years and once we get started I think the Pro Tour will shine as it continues to grow.”
What are your thoughts of Maple Hill?
“This is such an awesome course. It really is one of the classic courses on tour and many can agree that it is one of the most difficult.”
Strongest and weakest part of your game right now?
“Strongest would be off the tee. Feel like I’m throwing a lot of good shots. Really feel good there. Weakest would have to be… um. I don’t know. I feel confident all around. If I would have to pick it would be putting from around 40-50 feet.”
Beyond winning, what goals do you have for the weekend?
“Usually for a National Tour event, you want to finish top 10 as an initial goal. For the Vibram Open, top 4 finish would be the main goal.”
In one word, describe your feelings going into the Vibram Open?
“Excited.”
Along with Nate Doss, we’ll follow up with Ulibarri after the Vibram Open to talk about how the tournament played out as he begins his time on the Disc Golf Pro Tour.
